STENTORIZE IT
is
a
multidisciplinary
collaboration and
combines
plexiglass
engraving,
pottery,
light
design,
journalism, music, discussion
and live DJ set.
Stentors will be
engraved,
as they were first observed under
the microscope in the
19th century by the German physiologist Ernst
Haeckel, in two
plexiglass panels 2mX1.5m. The panels will be
experimentally engraved
by hand and illuminated so as to produce a
3D image with subtle
movement of the stentors when they are seen
with special (red cyan)
glasses.
We creating two clusters
of
clay stentors hanging from the
ceiling that each form the
prototype of a stentor. The
clusters will be illuminated
so
as
their
shadows to
surround
the
plexiglass
panels.
We creating a music piece
with sound
bites from
the Arab spring and the rescue operations of
refugees in the
Mediterranean. The piece will be played by speakers
next to the
clay clusters so to produce subtle movement by
vibration.
The movement in our
installation is subtle but is there ... without
movement there is no
life...
The numerous «Stentora»
reflect the Mediterranean people: Each one
of them with the strength
of 50 they revolt, demonstrate, get
organized through social media,
get slaughtered, are drowned...
they survive and moving through the
border less water, with the
strength of 50 they hope...
Shadows, thrown by light from computer screens, mobiles and tablets, flow to join in formations; forms yet still hanging in waiting in the shadows of history.
